Methuselah Doe is an immigrant from Liberia who lives in Concord. Many in town may recognize his smiling face from Hannaford, where he works bagging groceries and rounding up the carts.

What brought you to New Hampshire?

I won the immigrant lottery in my country to come here. I was born in Liberia and raised there, too.

What do you miss about your home country?

Liberia has a truly unique culture. (I miss) the food, music, the people, etc. Of course, the country has seen better times; now it is a dangerous and difficult place to live. My two children are still there, so I miss them and hope to bring them here someday, too.

What do you like about Concord?

I love it! I think Concord is not like anyplace else. It has a lot of good things to offer. The weather is great; even the winter is good. The people here that I have met are kind. The colleges are good. We don't have as much crime and troubles as some of the other states do. I really like it here.

What do you do when not working at Hannaford?

I attend classes at NHTI. I hope to earn a degree in public health. I would use that to help the people of New Hampshire and the other immigrants here who need help.
