City Briefly

Every week, City Manager Tom Aspell puts on his aviator sunglasses, ties his sweater around his neck, and hops in his sweet 'Vette to deliver us a totally preppy city memo. All we proles at the Insider can do is sit here and take it.

The city's seven outdoor swimming pools will open for the season on June 18, Aspell writes. Residents are reminded that they will need a photo ID to use the pools. Non-residents will need to purchase a pool pass at the Parks and Recreation Office prior to using any of the pools. Pool locations, hours, rules and information about swimming lessons, aquatics and special events can be found at concordnh.gov/recreation.

Again this year, Beaver Meadow Golf Course will host the LPGA Duramed Futures Tour, which brings the best professional female golf prospects to Concord to compete for a chance to play on the LPGA's regular schedule in 2012. The tournament, Aspell writes, will be held from July 19-24. Ticket, sponsorship, volunteer and Pro Am opportunities can be found on the web at beavermeadowgolfcourse.com.

traffic on loudon road?

Inconceivable!

The contractor will continue installing services along Loudon Road this week, Aspell writes. If time permits, work on the water main replacement may progress to the area in front of the Red Apple Buffet.

Roadway reconstruction will continue along the southbound section of North State Street, between Dolan Street and Hillcrest Avenue. The contractor anticipates base paving that section of roadway during the week of June 20. Traffic delays are to be expected, Aspell writes. Additionally, the replacement of the Rattlesnake Brook culvert just south of Knight Street will resume this week. The culvert replacement is expected to take about four weeks.

Generally, two lanes of traffic will be maintained through the work area, but one-lane traffic is expected at times. The public is encouraged to seek alternate routes if possible.

And the trash

Curbside recycling has proven successful for the city, as the numbers below show. The city encourages everyone to practice the three “R's” – Reduce, Re-use and Recycle.

Curbside tonnages:

May 2011-Curbside trash: 388.22 tons. Curbside recycling: 276.67 tons.

May 2009-Curbside trash: 922.91 tons. Curbside recycling: 181.97 tons.

That's it for Tom and his crew of preppy cronies this week. Be sure to check in next week to see if they still rule the school. NERDS!
