Guerrilla gardening in Concord

“Each year on May 1, people worldwide scatter sunflower seeds in empty lots, bare city spots, neighbors’ yards and anywhere else that strikes their fancy,” wrote reader Teresa Gladstone.

“This year’s International Sunflower Guerrilla Gardening Day was bigger than ever. Thousands of people pledged on Facebook to participate.” Gladstone, along with her granddaughter and neighborhood kids, took part in the springtime activity. Pleased with the results, she sent us a photo of one of the flowers that popped up in her yard. Apparently, the flowers started blooming in August and are just finishing up now.
