Okay, so last week, when we told readers in one of our house ads that the word “cemetery” comes from the German words “koimeterion” and “koiman,” we apparently had no idea what we were talking about.
Reader Barry Borella wrote to tell us of our error: “In German, a sleeping place is “schlafplatz.” I have never seen words like the ones you quote in German.”
Barry suggested the words may be Greek, and, lo and behold, he was correct! We promise, Barry, no more googling “facts about cemeteries” when we need to fill space in the future. We’re sooooo done with that.
