Found: a purple tree box

Reader Debbie LaValley wrote in last week to alert us to a strange presence in the trees at the Hannah Dustin park-and-ride in Boscawen. Here's what she had to say:

Another person just mentioned the purple box type things that are in the trees near the Hannah Dustin park-and-ride. I haven't seen them, but did see one up north in a tree. They must be for some kind of bug research or something? It may make for an interesting subject for the Insider, a “Guess What This Is?” type of thing.

An excellent suggestion, as guesses are all we have right now.

Instead of bugs, we're thinking strategically placed pods for a future alien invasion by creatures that like cold weather and maple syrup. It's an ingenious plan, really. Everyone thinks aliens hang out in Nevada, New Mexico and other western states, but the joke's on us when they show up in New Hampshire. Touche, martians.

Do you have any ideas on what this could possibly be? Something factually based, maybe? We'll take fictional ideas, too, because those are fun.
