Traffic Report
Fisherville fun
Penacook residents must be loving the Fisherville Road improvements. At least the ones who like sitting in traffic.

According to City Manager Tom Aspell's weekly memo, “Continental Paving has placed binder course pavement on Fisherville Road from Bog Road to just north of Sewalls Falls Road.”
We don't know what that means, but it doesn't matter. It still means delays. He continues: “The installation of vertical granite curbing will continue into next week. Along with installation of curbing, the contractor will focus on the construction of new sidewalks along both sides of the street and base paving driveway aprons. One-lane traffic conditions will continue and delays are to be anticipated. We thank the public for its continued patience during this work.”

You're welcome, Tom! We've just minimized trips to McDonald's, so these delays are good for us, in a weird kind of way.

Loudon Road delays
Some of you may have tried to gain access to Interstate 93 North via the ramp by NHTI, but were turned away by a merciless construction crew worker. Once you got over the misery of driving back toward Loudon Road, you realized that it would have been nice if someone told you about that. Well, here's a traffic item we're telling you about. You may thank us with cookies, if you'd like.

Tom writes, “This past week, crews installed new foundations for pedestrian signal poles west of the I-93 overpass. Next week, construction activity will include pole foundations and trenching for electrical conduit east of the overpass.”

What? Trenching? Conduit? Uh, nevermind, we don't need to know. Go on, Tom: “Curb and sidewalk modifications will also be done at select locations between Stickney Avenue and Fort Eddy Road. During construction, the contractor will maintain access to all ramps and cross-streets in the Exit 14 vicinity.” Beware, Panera Bread visitors.

New device!
Not just books at the public library!
Technology geeks and energy bill readers, check this out: The Concord Public Library now has a “Kill A Watt EZ” electricity bill monitor available to check out for two weeks with your library card.

Tom has more details: “To use the device, you simply connect your appliances to the monitor and it will assess how efficient they are. The unit's large LCD display counts consumption by the kilowatt-hour, the same as your local utility company. You can calculate your electrical expenses by the day, week, month or year while also checking the quality of your power by monitoring voltage, line frequency and power factor. Then you can choose which appliances you need to keep plugged in.”

Cool!

Golf much?
Duramed tour in town
“The Duramed Futures Tour USI Championship comes back to Concord,” says Tom. “Beaver Meadow Golf Course is hosting some of the finest young women players in the world in their quest to become part of the LPGA Tour next year. The USI Championship at Beaver Meadow Golf Course is the next stop on the Futures Tour Schedule.” How do you get in on the fun? We're glad you asked. “The tournament begins on Friday, July 24, and ends with the crowning of the USI Champion on Sunday, July 26. Tickets are still available and may be purchased at the gate on the day of the tournament. Ticket prices begin at $10 per person; children 12 and under are free.”

Thanks, Tom, and if you'd like more information about the tour, visit duramedfuturestour.com.
