Death at Pompeia’s Wedding
Rosemary Rowe
2008, 213 pages
Setting: AD 189, Roman town of Glevum (modern Gloucester)

Libertus, a former slave and pavement-maker, is asked by his patron to attend the society wedding of Pompeia and Gracchus. But just before the bridegroom arrives, it is discovered that Pompeia’s father has died under suspicious circumstances. Libertus is good at solving mysteries, so he is called on to find out if it was murder. Then Libertus finds another dead body and realizes that he must solve this mystery quickly, or he may end up being thrown into the infamous Roman dungeons himself.

This interesting mystery is filled with details about daily life in Roman Britain. If you would like to read more mysteries set in Roman times, you should try the Marcus Didius Falco series by Lindsey Davis.
