Who doesn’t love
A public meeting?

This week’s memo from City Manager Tom Aspell is full of helpful nuggets of information. Like this: “The Engineering Services Division of the Community Development Department will be hosting a public meeting regarding the upcoming construction schedule for Fisherville Road and North State Street (from Lake Street to Bog Road). This meeting will be held on Wednesday, March 4, at 6 p.m., at the Beaver Meadow School cafeteria. All are welcome to attend.”

See? A helpful nugget.

Aide retires

Aspell gave us the news that community service aide Leo Lajoie retired last week. He writes, “Leo joined the Concord Police Department in 1997 as a civilian volunteer after having attended the Citizen’s Police Academy. Leo had recently retired from the NH Department of Transportation and wanted to find out more about his local police department.” Way to chase your dreams, Leo!

Okay, back to you, Tom: “Leo worked in the criminal pision for Lt. Paul Murphy. In 2001, after countless hours of volunteer labor, Leo was hired as a part-time community service aide. Leo’s assignments included handling supply duties for officers, specifically in the booking and evidence areas, as well as processing evidence and property and returning items to owners. Leo has spent the last eight years doing this job. All of his duties involved labor that police officers did in the past and will now have to do in his absence. Leo earned the trust and respect of his peers at the department and he will be sorely missed.”

Aspell adds that Leo will spend his newfound free time hanging out with the family and travelling. Send us a postcard, Leo!

Want fireworks?
Fork over the dough

Tom Aspell would like to remind those of us who appreciate the annual fireworks display at Memorial Field that “the Recreation Department is continuing its fundraising campaign for the July 4th fireworks.”

Pyrotechnics weren’t on the 2009 budget, and the rec staff have been asked to raise the cost of the fireworks display.

Take it away, Tom: “The cost of the show is budgeted for $12,000 and the department has raised half that amount. If anyone is interested in donating to the event, please contact Recreation Director David Gill at 225-8690.”

You heard the man. Now check the couch cushions for loose change.
