Eat a vegetarian lunch at the State House

Last year, a very important piece of legislation passed, HB1422, which formed a 14-member commission on the prevention of childhood obesity. Its task involves hearing recommendations from many sources on how to prevent childhood obesity. It will then present to Gov. Lynch those recommendations it deems imperative.

The Citizens for Food that Makes a Difference is pleased to announce a vegetarian lunch we will provide at the State House as one of our initiatives to be heard on this subject.

Working with nationally acclaimed Chef Cathi Dicoco, of Cafe Dicocoa, located in Bethel, Maine, this vegetarian lunch will be on Wednesday, Feb. 11, and will include hand-outs on nutrition's role in reversing, reducing and eliminating childhood obesity. Books and materials focusing on food that makes a difference will be on display for those who wish to learn more.

CFMD uses research and expertise from several prominent organizations who are all working on creating a much needed fundamental change in how we think about food. Some of the nutritional recommendations we regard as vital to restoring optimal health in children (and adults) can be found via the following links:

• Dr. Antonia Demas, founder of The Food Studies Institute, foodstudies.org

T. Colin Campbell Foundation, plantbasednutrition.org.

Caldwell Esselstyn, Jr., M.D., heartattackproof.com.

Dr. Neal Barnard Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, pcrm.org and nutritionmd.org.

We invite anyone who is interested in combating the problem of obesity and related-diseases through sustainable, plant-based agriculture to join our grassroots organization. E-mail maclaura@netzero.net for more information.
