Earlier in this issue, we suggested that you check out the Chamber of Commerce’s recently re-released walking tour of historic downtown Concord. Unfortunately, the tour will not include scenes like this, which is a picture taken of Main Street about 150 years ago. You’ll just have to imagine what the buildings and streets on the walking tour looked like way back when. Just imagine living in a time without a paved Main Street, like parts of this summer.

If you were ever curious as to what the Baker and Upton sawmill over at Bow Mills looked like a really long time ago, then you’re in luck. (Hint: It’s right above.) We imagine it was placed on the river in order to bring in logs for processing (big trucks and cranes weren’t too prominent back then), but maybe they just liked the sound of rushing water. Who knows? Anyway, big thanks to reader Earl Burroughs for sending us the picture. -
