“Ms. Holmes and Ms. Watson, Apt. 2B” is a clever and darkly comedic mystery, based on the
legendary tales of Sherlock Holmes. Written by Kate Hamill, it is a highly theatrical, small-cast escapade, in which oddball roommates Sherlock Holmes and Joan Watson join forces to emerge from a pandemic fog as a deeply codependent, quasi-dysfunctional Odd Couple adventure duo, solving mysteries and kicking butts, until they come face to face with a villain who seems to have all the answers. Directed by Vicky Sandin (“The Odd Couple โ Female Version” and “Pride and Prejudice”), the show will be performed by the Community Players of Concord February 13-15 at the Concord City Auditorium.
โI have been a Sherlock Holmes fan since I was a teen, and Kate Hamill’s take on the iconic
character honors the originalย text by planting some nuggets from Conan Doyle’s stories (“A Study in Scarlet,” “A Scandal in Bohemia,” “The Adventure of the Final Problem,” to name a few) in her script, while maintaining Sherlock’s basic character and deductive genius. What’s different? Sherlock is a woman, and so is her roommate, Dr. Joan Watson. Oh, and it’s 2021.โ said Director Vicky Sandin. โThe two leads, Suzanne Watts as Holmes and Julia Kehr as Watson, layer these characters with comic timing and a humanity that is difficult to achieve in a comedy but they do it, and they nail it.:
In addition to Watts (“Gods of Comedy,” “The 39 Steps”) and Kehr (“Pride and Prejudice” and “The 39 Steps”), the cast includes Travis Laughlin (“Bye Bye Birdie” and “Pride and Prejudice”), Heather MacFadden (“The Odd Couple โ Female Version”), Linda Pilla (new to the Players), Karen Braz (“A Christmas Carol,” “A Midsummer Nights Dream”) and Griffin Stuart (“Barefoot in the Park,” “Gods of Comedy.”)
