NHTI’s Friday Night at the Movies: “Easy Living,” Friday, January 23 at 7 p.m.
“Easy Living” (1937) features an exasperated millionaire (Edward Arnold) who tosses his spoiled wife’s expensive fur coat from the roof of their luxurious NYC home. It lands on a startled young woman (Jean Arthur) on her way to work. The young woman’s whose modest world is about to be completely upended. This very funny screwball comedy is the perfect combination of screenplay (by Preston Sturges), direction (by Mitchell Leisen) and actors (Arthur, Arnold, Ray Milland, William Demarest, and Franklin Pangborn). It provided Depression-era audiences a fine opportunity to laugh-out-loud at life and will undoubtedly continue to do so today!
