Birders across New Hampshire have something new to celebrate. NH Audubon has officially launched the Joy of Birding, an online publication dedicated to birds, birding, and the vibrant community that brings these stories to life. The website is the new digital home of “New Hampshire Bird Records,” a publication with more than 40 years of history documenting the state’s birdlife.

After four decades in print, the beloved journal is entering a new era — one designed to expand access, share stories in near real time, and welcome new birders at every experience level. The site features timely rare bird reports, monthly birding tips, interactive photo quizzes, and field notes from across the state. Highlights range from expert insights to quirky observations (like a tailless Red-winged Blackbird named Bob) capturing the wonder and excitement of birding in New Hampshire.

“We are thrilled to bring this resource to birders across New Hampshire,” said Grace McCulloch, community science project leader at NH Audubon. “Making this content freely accessible supports our mission by inspiring people to engage with nature and contribute to the science that helps protect New Hampshire’s birds. Whether you watch birds at your feeder or spend every weekend in the field, there’s something here for you.”

The site includes pieces from long-time volunteers and seasoned experts. Visitors are encouraged to sign up for email updates via the homepage to receive new articles as they are published.
