City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell logs on to his computer, downloads pictures of funny cats and the like, then adds funny captions before sending them over to the Insider. The result, as always, is the city memo (meme-o?).

Bountiful bountifulness
In the spirit of giving

The Concord Human Services Department was the grateful recipient of 60 turkeys and Thanksgiving baskets from Sanel Auto Parts last week, Aspell writes. The baskets were bountiful and included everything from soup to nuts. Perhaps literally. Deep appreciation goes out to the Sanel employees who contribute and to George Segal, who matches the employees’ contributions one-to-one and then provides additional baskets to reach 60. Dude’s got more baskets than Michael Jordan. Heartfelt thanks go out to the Sanel leadership team: Bobby Segal, David Segal and John Choroszy, for their generosity and support of this program. They humbly defer our thanks to Peter Glendinning, Sanel human resources manager, who coordinates this complex project with the Human Services Department. He, in turn, defers thanks to giving (see what we did there?). Aspell also wishes to thank volunteers Bob Whatmough, Bill Lynch and Terri Stevenson, who helped to distribute the baskets.

Not quite, but almost

The city contractor is striving to complete the work on North State Street prior to winter shutdown, Aspell writes. Can you feel that determination?

Work remaining on the corridor includes completion of sidewalks, base paving of driveways, installation of theme park, completion of granite street curb, raising utility castings, placement of loam, and pavement striping.

With an “all hands on deck” approach, the city expects to be wrapping up major operations on North State Street in the next couple of weeks. Go team!

future is bright

Time to light that tree

The Penacook Village Association is hosting the annual Penacook Christmas tree lighting ceremony Nov. 28 at 6 p.m. at the Boudreau Square monument in downtown Penacook, Aspell writes.

Cookies and hot chocolate will be available. Did someone say cookies? We’re there! For more information, visit penacook.org.

raking it in

Get those leaves out

Three crews continue to pick up leaves around the city as weather permits, Aspell writes. Residents are reminded that leaves are to be raked to the curb and left loose so crews can vacuum them up. Please do not bag the leaves and do not place brush in the leaves. Also, don’t get upset if you see crews jumping gleefully into the larger piles. Days get long out there!

Ice, ice, baby

Work continues on the new pond at Beaver Meadow Golf Course which, when finished, the Parks and Recreation Department will maintain for ice skating, Aspell writes. The pond will be around two-thirds the size of the pond at White Park, or much larger than your bathtub. The project should be complete by Dec. 1.
