Ask the Elders: Music choices

Dear Elders, The majority of the music that young people listen to today is awful! The lyrics are either offensive, or just ridiculous. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for music we could download that has a little more staying power. Sincerely, Not Gaga for Lady Gaga Roioli Schweiker Dear Not Gaga, I almost never listen to music, so I can’t help you. Bill Twibill Dear Gagging, I certainly agree with you and it is a shame...

All about bald eagles

What is the status of the bald eagle in New Hampshire? The American bald eagle, selected as our national symbol in 1782, was nearly eliminated from the lower 48 states by the middle of the 20th century. In 1982, during the Mid-Winter Bald Eagle Survey, only two bald eagles were seen in the entire state of New Hampshire. But the banning of DDT in 1972 and aggressive conservation efforts have resulted in the bald eagle's remarkable...

Plaid not required at 'The Beav'

Even if the only golfing you like is of the mini variety, the bar and grill at Beaver Meadow Golf Course, 1 Beaver Meadow Road, will still feed you. I was glad to hear this because, although the grill's burgers and fries come highly recommended, the Food Snob does not look good in plaid. Last week, my dining companion and I stopped in for lunch. Since neither of us had any idea what to expect, we awkwardly stood in front of the...

Movie review: 'The Ghost Writer'

I loved this movie. I loved the acting, direction and suspenseful atmosphere. the timing is perfect, the acting is superb and the direction is Hitchcock inspired. Roman Polanski has quite possibly made his best film to date. “The Ghost Writer” stars Ewan McGregor as a writer who’s hired to complete the memoirs of ex-British Prime Minister Adam Lang (Pierce Brosnan). Based on the novel “The Ghost” by Robert Harris this film is a...
