We officially stepped outside of Concord, but not without parameters

There’s stories in them thar hills.
There’s stories in them thar hills.

Our love affair with Concord is no secret. If it were, though, it would be our second favorite secret, right between pop and victoria.

Anyway, we have and will always work to find the funkiest and funnest stuff Concord has to offer, even if funnest is the kind of (non) word that will incite the Grammarnator.

But there’s some pretty dope stuff going on just outside of Concord’s borders, and we have always thought our readers deserved to know all about it. We were hesitant to open a can of worms whereby we were flooded with emails from every resident of neighboring towns asking us to visit their favorite places, but then we figured, we could always start a farm with the worms that came out of that can. And we could just hire an intern to deal with the email barrage.

That’s actually not what we figured at all. We’ve long thought it would be fun to do a borders of Concord issue, but only if we stayed within a mile or so of the border on all sides. That way we could stay true to our roots and also almost reach them if we stretched really hard. Plus, if we made the guidelines clear, we figured, we could avoid upsetting the masses.

So that’s what we did. This issue is full of features on awesome stuff that is just beyond the boundaries of our beloved city. And there’s a ton of it! We stopped at Chuckster’s in Chichester (.4 miles out of town), Top O’ The Hill Disc Golf in Canterbury (.7 miles), the Wine’ing Butcher in Pembroke (barey more than a mile) and even got the Food Snob involved to hit up Beech Hill Farm in Hopkinton (.3 miles beyond the town line).

So don’t worry, Concord, we’d never stray too far away. But we hope you enjoy learning about these places that are just barely beyond your own back yard.

One final note: the cover of this issue is yet another masterpiece from the supremely talented Charlotte Thibault. But in the interest of full disclosure, it involved some Photoshopping – Tim took the picture of Keith and Keith took the picture of Tim and they were later magically combined into the image you see. We just didn’t feel comfortable with both of us outside the border at the same time.
