When surveyed, only 45 percent of high-school-age youth in Concord responded that they feel like they matter to people in their community. Join the Concord Substance Abuse Coalition for a town hall meeting, “Crossroads, Choices, and Community Connections: Youth Perspectives,” on April 15 from 6:30-8 p.m.
Students, parents and community leaders will gather in the Concord High School auditorium to hear young people speak about their experiences in finding healthy connections. According to Deputy Chief John Duval of the Concord Police Department and president of the Concord Substance Abuse Coalition's executive committee, “We can make a difference in helping youth feel connected. Healthy community connections lead to healthy choices. The question we want to ask of the youth and adults in our community is, 'so, are you connected?' “
The federal government's Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Prevention of Underage Drinking is supporting town hall meetings that are taking place in communities across America to coincide with Alcohol Awareness Month in April. You can join this national effort right here in your community. Hear from local youth about what we're doing right to help them make healthy choices through strong community connections.
