Walk Sunday and stand up to mental illness

On Sunday, Oct. 5, well over 500 walkers will lace up their sneakers and stand up to stigma – together. They’ll gather for the 12th year in support of the 254,000 adults and 55,000 children in New Hampshire affected by mental illness annually. Walkers will raise vital funds for nonprofit National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) NH, while stomping out the stigma that prevents so many with mental illness from seeking treatment.

NAMIWalks NH features a 5K scenic route through downtown Concord; a shorter stroll is also available. The event kicks off from the soccer fields on South Fruit St. across from Memorial Field. Registration opens at 9 a.m., with an official walk start time of 10:30 am.

NAMIWalks NH features music, activities, dog costume contest, puppet shows, MC Mya from 105.5 WJYY, a bounce house, face painting, entertainment, free grilled lunch, and more. NAMIWalks NH is family-friendly and dog-friendly; there’s no fee to register and no minimum fundraising amount.

The largest mental health education and fundraising effort in America, NAMIWalks brings together thousands of inpiduals and supporters nationally to celebrate mental illness recovery, to honor those who have lost their lives to mental illness and to help raise funds, combat stigma and promote awareness.

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) NH is a statewide, grassroots nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of inpiduals affected by mental illness or emotional disorders through education, support and advocacy.

This year marks the 12th Anniversary of NAMIWalks NH, and the organization’s goal is $125,000 in donations. Funds provide vital support to the 309,000 New Hampshire residents affected by mental illness annually.

Visit namiwalks.org/newhampshire to register or make a donation; registration will also be available on event day. For more information, contact walks@naminh.org or call 225-5359.
