Two programs ahead

The Concord Regional Visiting Nurse Association and its community partners are celebrating National Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Sept. 21 at Horseshoe Pond Place Senior Resource Center at 26 Commercial St. The program is from 10 a.m. to noon.

Falls are among the most frequent and preventable causes of injury. Join the group to learn what causes falls and discover resources available to help prevent them.

Participating exhibitors include: Blood Pressure screenings by Concord Regional VNA; balance screenings by Concord Hospital Rehabilitation Services; hearing and ear checks by New England Audiology and Hearing Aids; medication reviews by The Prescription Center; podiatrist foot exams by Dr. Edward Newcott; optometrist/vision consultations by The Eye Center of Concord.

There will be “A Matter of Balance” stretch and strengthen demonstration by Concord Regional VNA at 10:30 a.m. and a Tai Chi: Moving for Better Balance demonstration by Paul Carey at 11 a.m.

Also, the VNA is offering a free program “Helping Hands, Healing Hearts” on Sept. 22 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Concord Boys and Girls Club at 55 Bradley St. This program is for children (ages 5-18) and their families adjusting after the loss of a loved one.

The program is age appropriate, activity based and features movement and music creativity. Participants will make a commemorative “take-home” craft. The day includes support and resources for the entire family. Lunch and snacks provided. Pre-registration is required.
