We all know movies are better with a tasty adult beverage and some food that tastes so good it has to be bad for you. It’s certainly preferable to spending $46 on a fountain soda and a box of Junior Mints. Because make no mistake, this ain’t no concession stand – this is the beer tasting at the Co-op on Nov. 6 from 5 to 7 p.m. to kick off the SNOB Film Festival in style.

Get the SNOB party started right by checking out some tasty craft beers, most from local breweries, while dining on a hot bar full of tantalizing pub grub. The Co-op did the same thing last year, and it was a smashing success.

“People come down hungry, and we provide the food that fills their needs,” said Greg Lessard of the Co-op. “There will be some new things and some of the same things everyone was tantalized by last year.”

Prepare for your mouth to start watering, because we’re going to share the pub grub menu, available on the hot bar all day Thursday at the Co-op for $8.99 per pound: Buffalo wings, beer battered onion rings, edamame dumplings, jalapeno poppers, eggroll, Dragon Balls, fries, loaded potato skins, green bean casserole with crispy onions, pulled pork sliders, St. Louis ribs and teriyaki beef tips.

Breweries taking part in the beer tasting (which is also happening at O Steak & Seafood and Red River Theatres) include 603 Brewery, Canterbury Aleworks, Henniker Brewing Company, Moat Mountain Brewing Company, Out.Haus Ales, Smuttynose Brewery, Stark Brewing Company, Throwback Brewery, Tuckerman Brewing Co. and Woodstock Inn Brewery.

Henniker Brewing Company is playing a particularly special role, having brewed up Reel Ale as the signature SNOB Festival brew this year.

Reel Ale is described by Ryan Maiola of Henniker Brewing as “an English-style pale ale brewed in the tradition of unpasteurized English real ales, using only the finest English malts and hops. Perfectly balanced, with a crisp, nutty malt profile and hop accents of mint and herbs.” It’s special to the festival, though, and will therefore be a “limited, draft only release.”

The beer is 4.8 percent ABV and 25 IBU’s.

The best part is you can try the brew at any number of local establishments. Reel Ale will be on tap at Barley House, Penuches, Red River Theatre, Granite Restaurant, Cheers, O Steak & Seafood, Applebee’s, Red Blazer, Hermanos, Hungry Buffalo, Buffalo Wild Wings and NE Tap House Grille.

And the night’s not over after the pub grub and beer, so shake off the food coma and check out a couple of beer movies Thursday night. A craft beer films block featuring Throwback Brewery, directed by Meagan Frappiea and Bryant Naro, and Blood, Sweet, and Beer, directed by Chip Hiden and Alexis Irvin, will be shown at Red River at 7:30 p.m. Craft beer film tickets are $10.
