Knife sharpening fundraiser was a success

The knife sharpening fundraiser held at Things Are Cooking on Nov. 13 was a huge success this year thanks to the generosity of the community.

The shop, located at 74 N. Main St., holds its knife sharpening fundraiser every year to benefit The Capitol Region Food Program’s holiday food basket project. All proceeds from the fundraiser go to the charity.

This year, proceeds for the event were up nearly 50 percent from last year, for a grand total of $776 that will help to feed hungry families this year.

Zwilling J.A. Henckels was the co-sponsor for the event, and representative Ryan Joy was on hand to engage local participants and assist Master of Ceremonies Arthur Learned.
Things are cooking has hosted this fundraiser for at least 10 of the 20 years it has been in business in Concord.

For more information, call the shop at 225-8377.

Four artists, one show

McGowan Fine Art, 10 Hills Ave., announces the opening of “Small Views” featuring small works by Cathy Chin, Melissa Anne Miller, Shane Neufeld and Sandy Wadlington.
The show will run from Nov. 30 through Dec. 31, with an artists’ reception on Dec. 3 from 5 to 7 p.m. The public is welcome.

Inspired by the most recent work of Chin, gallery director Sarah Chaffee worked to put together a show featuring similarly sized works. “Cathy’s small, urban studies – motivated by a road trip – had a fresh feel that I thought people needed to see,” said Chaffee.

It coincided with a recent batch of watercolor studies by Neufeld, who since becoming an architect has not had much free time to paint. A trip to Nova Scotia this past summer inspired him to start again. This show is rounded out with the talent of artists Miller and Wadlington.
