Always an Adventure offers outdoor adventures for active adults. There’s a $35 yearly membership fee for all activities.
– Outing club: Two levels. Meets Wednesdays at 8:50 a.m. year-round in the parking lot behind Borders, 76 Fort Eddy Road. $4 activity fee plus carpool fee.
– Yoga class: Classes are held on Monday and Thursday, 10:30 a.m., at Barb Hanchett’s house, 480A Josiah Bartlett Road. Cost is $4 per class.
Extended adventures are also offered. Please register in advance by telephone.
– April 21-23: This trip to Eastham, Mass., is for biking and walking along the beach. The cost is $320, which includes two breakfasts and one dinner. Bike transport will be extra.
– June 5-7: Three days of fun at a YMCA camp located on Lake Coniston in Grantham. Activities include hiking, swimming, kayaking and crafts. The cost is $235, which includes all the meals.
– June 23-26: A Downeast Maine Adventure with home base at Bucksport, Maine, where we will explore the area for three days, including a boat trip to Isle Au Haut. The cost is $385/double, which includes three nights’ lodging, three breakfasts and boat trip.
– July 28-30: This trip to Errol will include three days of kayaking. The cost is $310, which includes everything.

The Concord Recreation Senior Program

The Concord Recreation Senior Program welcomes everyone 50 or older. Parking is always free. Winter hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10 a.m.-1 p.m.

March 4: Deb Samaha from Center for Health Promotion.
March 11: Centennial Senior Center Reception.
March 17: Lunch and a movie at Horseshoe Pond Place. Concord Recreation and Horseshoe Pond Place are collaborating to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with lunch followed by a movie and refreshments.
March 18: Sunset Club Meeting.
Each week, seniors can bring in canned goods to be distributed on Friday to local food kitchens.
On Mondays, we continue to offer walking group and Bingo (10 cents a card to play Bingo).
On Wednesdays, we continue to offer card games and cribbage. We have started a knitting group, too.
On Fridays we offer walking group, a variety of card games and line dancing ($4 charge for line dancing).
The collaboration between Concord Recreation Department and Concord Area Transit continues. Transportation to and from the senior program is provided at various locations. The cost for this service is $2 roundtrip. The CAT bus will pick up at the Crutchfield apartments on Pitman Street at 9:30 a.m. and then at Firehouse Block apartments on Warren Street at 9:40 a.m. The bus will then proceed to Crestwood mobile park off Manchester Street and pick up the seniors at their front doors. The return trips will start at 12:45 p.m. near the end of the program. To take part in this new transportation, seniors will need to complete a form. This form can be picked up at the senior program or at the recreation department.

This month, the library presents: “Advance Care Directives: Who Will Decide?”
What do your loved ones need to know if you're not able to tell them? How do recent changes to New Hampshire’s Advance Care Planning Laws affect you? This seminar that is co-sponsored by the Concord Public Library Foundation addresses the importance of evaluating advance care planning related to end-of-life issues. Co-presented by Deborah Clark, spiritual care counselor, Concord Hospital, and Marilyn Sullivan, extension educator.
The program will be held on Wednesday, March 11, noon to 1:30 p.m. at the library. There is no charge to attend. To register, call the library reference desk at 225-8590 or e-mail library@onconcord.com.

All the below activities are free and held at Horseshoe Pond Place, unless otherwise noted:
– Mondays: A stretching and strengthening class is offered at 9 a.m.
At 10 a.m., during the center’s “meet and greet,” enjoy a muffin, danish or bagel in the dining room. Free beverages provided.
Bocce is played at 10:30 a.m. in the community room.
Put on your walking shoes and meet us at 12:30 p.m. in the lobby for “10,000 Steps for Life: Walking for the Health of it!” If there is inclement weather we will be walking indoors.
Card games are played at 1 p.m. in the dining room.
Bingo is played at 2:30 p.m. in the dining room.
– Tuesdays: “10,000 Steps for Life” is held at 12:30 p.m., except for the first Tuesday of the month.
“Trek and Trolley” is offered the first Tuesday of the month at 1:03 p.m. The fee for the trolley is $1 round-trip. If there is inclement weather, we will have a movie matinee or free concert.
– Wednesdays: A stretching and strengthening class is offered at 9:30 a.m.
Card games are played at 11 a.m. in the dining room.

Meet in the dining room at 1:15 p.m. for “Pitch and Putt.” Not a golfer? No problem – we can teach you for free.
Dominoes, Boggle and card games are played at 1:15 p.m. in the dining room.
– Fridays: A stretching and strengthening class is offered at 9:30 a.m.
“Dog Therapy” is held at 10:30 a.m. Come meet and play with Little Boy, a professionally trained Bichon-poodle mix.
“10,000 Steps for Life” meets in the lobby at 12:30 p.m.
Card games are played in the dining room at 1 p.m. At 2:30 p.m., play bingo.

Every first Tuesday morning of each month we will be having Community Day here at HSPP. During this time, we will be concentrating on volunteering and giving back to the community. The activities will vary with the need and the people involved. You may find inpiduals going to a nursing home to read to another elder, someone knitting for the less fortunate or someone cleaning and redecorating this place. – March 10: Concord Hospital Senior Wellness Meeting at 10 a.m. in the community resource room. Topic to be announced. Please call Concord Hospital Volunteer Services Office at 227-7000, ext. 3660 for more information and to register. This group meets on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month.
Movie matinee with hot buttered popcorn at 1:15 p.m. in the community resource room.
Concord Contemporary Club at 7 p.m. in the community resource room. This local women’s service club meets monthly on the second Tuesday of each month. All women are welcome to attend.
– March 12: “Bach” Box Lunch Series. We will be taking the trolley from HSPP at 11:25 a.m. and going to the Concord Community Music School to listen to live music while we eat our lunch. Cost is $1 round trip for trolley ride and a $2 donation for lunch.
– March 13: Birthday dinner at noon for residents with a March birthday.
– March 16: The Centennial Senior Center Advisory Board will meet in the community resource room at 1 p.m. with the local senior citizens to inform us of the direction their organization.
– March 17: Area Committee on Aging at 10 a.m. in the community resource room. Meets the third Tuesday of each month. Everyone is welcome.
St. Patrick’s Day Party at 1:15 p.m. In collaboration with the Concord Recreation Department. Held in the community resource room. Please bring a friend, wear green and bring a green treat (optional).
– March 19: AARP Meeting at 1 p.m. in the community resource room. AARP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan membership organization for people age 50 and older. This month’s meeting will have Ollie Lafond doing a presentation on the AARP Driver Safety Course. For more information, contact Tim Gormley at 228-4704. All are welcome!

– March 29: Free concert at 6:30 p.m. in the community resource room featuring D’Elaine & Ford. This musical duo sings folk music and plays guitar. They are a crowd pleaser and are back by popular demand.
– March 31: Trolley trip to the Museum of NH History at 1 p.m. Cost is a $ 5.50 donation ($4.50 group rate to museum and $1 round trip for the trolley). Costs can be defrayed if money is a problem.
Do you enjoy writing? We will be starting up a FREE Writing Group very soon. Cassie Pappathan, a professional writer and reporter with The Insider will be the instructor. It will either be on Wednesday or Thursday evenings. Please see Colette for more details.
q April 1: HSPP is on the move, just for the day! We are heading to the Concord Recreation Department on Airport Road at 9:30 a.m. to do a Stretching & Strengthening class. We will be staying there for lunch. CAP will provide brown bags for $2 donation. (We will need a head count for that by mid-March). The Recreation Department will have a guest speaker and other opportunities to socialize with other seniors as well.
– April 7: “Walker & Cane Tune Up” at 10 a.m. Sponsored by The Prescription Center. To be held in the community resource room.
“Embracing the New (Technology) and Having Fun With the Old” in the community room at 1:15 p.m. Paula Towle will inform and keep us abreast of all the new technology available at Health South. Afterward, the attendees are invited to stay for a root beer float and/or ice cream sundae. (Sugar-free ice cream and fresh fruit will be available.)
– April 14: Free concert to be held at The Bon Ton at 2 p.m. “Music from the Woods Entertainment” featuring fiddler James Pero with special guest Stan Arthur on guitar. Get ready to tap your toes as you hear some French Canadian, New England and Cajun fiddling.

Senior membership rates per month are $40 per person, or $75 for couples. Senior membership hours are weekdays, 5 a.m. to 4 p.m., and weekends are unlimited.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays the following senior classes are offered:
– “Cardio Circuit” at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. Class includes warm-up, with a varying circuit workout on six different pieces of cardio equipment.
– “Agile up and Be Strong” at 8:30 a.m. This class will warm you up and then challenge your muscles to improve your daily mobility.
– “Easy Does it, Water Aerobics” at 10 a.m. Experience the benefits of exercising in the water during this 45-minute class.
– “Deep Water Hydro Fitness” at 11 a.m. Using floatation devices, you will do a variety of moves such as jumping jacks, cross-country skiing, lunges, water jogging and sprinting for a great overall aerobic workout. For all fitness levels.
“Tai-Chi and Qui Gong For Health” is on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:30 a.m. Long recognized as a way to stay fit and healthy, these ancient Chinese exercises unite the mind and body to improve our overall mental and physical well being.
A “free weights class” begins on March 3 and will continue for eight weeks.

The Merrimack County Area Committee on Aging

The Merrimack County Area Committee On Aging (MCACOA) will meet on Tuesday, March 17, in the community resource room at Horseshoe Pond Place, 26 Commercial St. Refreshments will be available at 9:30 a.m. and the meeting will begin at 10 a.m. There is no admission charge.
The focus of this meeting will be on library services available to seniors and transportation issues involving the elderly. Everyone is welcome to attend and participate in the discussions. All of the meetings are open to the public.

Concord Hospital Senior Wellness Mornings

Kate Pfeifle, RD, dietitian at Concord Hospital, will update us on home food safety on Tuesday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. The talk is titled: “Safe Food Handling at Home.” According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in four Americans experience a foodborne illness every year. Since foodborne illness can be serious, or even fatal, it is important for all of us to know and practice safe food handling behaviors to reduce the risk of getting sick from contaminated food.
“Zumba Gold” with Tracy Beaulieu is held on Tuesday, March 24, from 10 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. Tracy will be leading us in a fun, easy, musical program that will get us moving to various beats. Zumba Gold has been developed for older adults and can be done standing or even sitting. It was such a popular program last year that we have brought it back!

The YMCA is open Monday to Friday from 5 a.m.-10 p.m. (pool opens at 5:30 a.m.); Saturday from 7 a.m.-6 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. (pool opens at 11:30 a.m.)
Our senior membership fee is $32 per month after a $30 start- up fee. Program membership for $35 (classes have a fee with this membership). Financial assistance is available.
– Water walking is an intense deep water workout with no impact to muscles or joints. You’ll build strength and endurance. Classes are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8:30-9:15 a.m. and are free for members; $50 for program members.
– “Waterworks” consists of a steady aerobic segment followed by deep water exercise for endurance and muscle toning through water resistance. Classes are Tuesday and Thursday from 7:30-8:15 p.m. and Saturday, 8:30 – 9:15 a.m. and are free for members; $50 for program members.
– Senior strength training is designed specifically for older adults with a primary goal of slowing the aging process. Classes are Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9-10 a.m. and are free for members; $50 for program members.
– “Silver sneakers” is a new program designed for seniors just beginning to exercise or at an intermediate level. Join us on Monday and Wednesday, 10-11 a.m. This program is free for members; $57 for program members.
– “Beginning Yogafit” is for those who are active and want to try yoga, but never have. Yoga fitness is part of the hatha yoga and vinyasa style. Tuesday and Thursday, 8-9 a.m. This class is free for members; $82 for program members.
