School vacation activities

Keep the kiddos busy with these camps and activities happening over the next two weeks!

N.H. Audubon
Celebrate the end of 2009 by joining us for Winter Solstice Camp! We’ll keep your child active with educational games, outdoor adventures, live animals, crafts and stories.
We’ll explore the winter world, find out who is still out and about, look for evidence of animal activity and share good times. Join in the fun for just one day or sign up for all of them!

Children should bring their own lunches and snacks and be prepared to be outside with appropriate clothing.

Monday, Dec. 28: Wild and Wacky Winter – learn about the strange things animals do to get through the tough New Hampshire winters.

Tuesday, Dec. 29: Owl Mania – learn about New Hampshire’s owl species and meet a live owl, up close and personal!

Wednesday, Dec. 30: New Year’s Extravaganza – Get ready to ring in the New Year, animal style!

Camp Fee: $40 members/$50 nonmembers per child per day. Camper drop-off begins at 8:30 a.m.; after-hours care is available from 4-5:30 p.m. for an additional charge of $8 members/$10 nonmembers per child per day.

Registrations are accepted only by mail or in person at the McLane Center, 3 Silk Farm Road. We cannot take registrations over the phone.

To receive a registration packet, please call the New Hampshire Audubon Centralized Registration Center at 224-9909, ext. 333, or pick up a form at either center.

McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center
The Discovery Center, located at NHTI at 2 Institute Drive, will offer special programming for “Black Holes Extravaganza Week!” The traveling exhibit will be on display through the end of December, and special events will run from Monday, Dec. 28 through Thursday, Dec. 31.

There will be astro craft projects and a black holes board game, special demonstrations, and an imaging process lab where visitors can control a remote telescope through the Center for Astrophysics, photograph a celestial object and print it to take home.

The black holes planetarium show will be playing each day at 4 p.m.
