Home improvement advice at the library

Is your toilet leaking? Does your living room need to be painted? Is your ‘Honey-do’ list long? If so, check out the Home Improvement Reference Center, available through the Concord Public Library. The Home Improvement Reference Center is a full-text database available for library patrons. It is designed to assist homeowners in do-it-yourself home repair, maintenance and remodeling projects.

Step-by-step instructions for thousands of projects in the areas of plumbing, outdoor, woodworking, electrical and decorating are provided in high-quality PDF files. Additionally, thousands of articles from magazines and reference books provide tips and suggestions to supplement the project instructions. The database also contains nearly 100 videos of popular home repair projects, a convenient A-Z browsing tool and full-text magazines, including “This Old House.”

Remote access is available for library patrons for use from home, as well as in the library. Searching the database is easy, and results can be saved, printed or e-mailed. Users may also set up custom alerts, so they are notified when articles of interest or new magazines have been added.

A current Concord Public Library card allows home access to the database from the library web site. Go to the library web site at onconcord.com/library, click on “Online Databases” on the left hand side of the page, and scroll down to “Home Improvement Reference Center.” Start searching the database to get the information you need to take care of your home.
