We're proud to bring you a new feature: Girl Scout of the Week! We'll be profiling some local Girl Scouts to find out just what being a scout is all about. This week, we've got 12-year-old cadette Delaney John-Zensy of Troop 10524. Check it out!

How long have you been a Girl Scout?

Seven years.

What are the three qualities of a good leader?

To be a good leader, you have to be able to have fun and get things done. Have a time limit, be flexible, take a lot of breaks and be nice.

What community service projects have you done?

We cleaned up our community and picked up trash at a grave yard. I helped with an elementary school party, did face painting and helped cleaning up afterward. My favorite thing I facepainted was a full cat face.

I earned my Bronze Award by going to a local assisted living home and playing games with the residents. They play Uno, bingo, and Apples to Apples. I loved it! The residents are always very excited to see us, and it makes us so happy to see them happy. It's also fun to see the residents win the games.

Even though the Bronze Award is a short-term thing, I still go every week and play games at the assisted living home.

If you were president for a day, what would you do?

I would bring food to poor people, and if that day was Christmas, I would make sure every kid got a present, even if it was something small.

Who is your role model and why?

My mom – she is awesome and funny. If needed, she can be strict, like moms do. Even when she is really sick, she does what she has to.

Why do you enjoy being a Girl Scout?

It's fun to see all my friends. We also get to do fun trips and projects and get to help out a lot with community service. We went to New York City and got to see Times Square. We raised money for the trip by selling Girl Scout Cookies.

We went to Cape Cod as part of Girl Scouting's Caring for the Earth initiatives. We went out on the beach and picked up trash. Also, we learned how to make new friends. If you have friends, you still need to make new friends, but keep the old ones too. We also learned how to treat wildlife, and to not pick up horseshoe crabs.

What fun activities do you do as a Girl Scout?

I went to camp and stayed in a cabin. We made fires, cooked hotdogs, tin foil meals and s'mores. Tin foil meals are made with tin foil. You put carrots, kielbasa, broccoli, potatoes, and cream of cheddar soup in the tin foil, then put it on a crate in the camp fire to cook. It's really good.

We took a limo to the Museum of Science one time and had a sleepover in the museum – at 11 p.m. we went to see a lightning show, and learned how to make kaleidoscopes. We slept near mannequins with antique clothing, robots, and western stuff. It was kind of scary.

Tell us three things about yourself that we might not know:

I absolutely love to read, especially Harry Potter. I am homeschooled. I play the piano and soccer.
