The Islands of Chaldea

Diana Wynne Jones (completed by Ursula Jones)

1986, 356 pages

Fiction

The last book written by Diana Wynne Jones, The Islands of Chaldea, holds the same sparkle and wonder that defined her entire writing career. Left unfinished at the time of her death, this winning novel was posthumously completed by her sister, Ursula Jones.

The result is a seamless fantasy story, as whole and hale as any of her earlier books. Set in a world of perse island nations, the action follows Aileen, a young Wise Woman of the northern island of Skarr. She and her sage aunt are called into danger and adventure when they are tasked with a rescue mission – and with getting past the barrier that’s blocked off the island of Logra for years.

A delightful read for any and all ages (you can find it in J Fiction at the library), The Islands of Chaldea is a wonderful final gift from a master storyteller.
