Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell laces up his running shoes, puts on his bib and runs full-speed to the starting line. When he gets there, he’s so exhausted that he doesn’t have enough energy to start the race! We hand him a little cup of water, which gives him the strength to gasp out the city memo before collasping in a heap.

Cops on bikes are back
The Concord Police Department recently took delivery of a new Harley Davidson motorcycle that will be used for patrol, Aspell writes. The last time the police department had motorcycles in services was 1992. In related news, Eric Estrada has also been hired, because of his sweet cop sunglasses.
Many thanks to retired Lt. Paul Murphy; officers Andy Pellecchia, Andy Sargent, Eric Crane and Bill Dexter; Deputy Chief Brad Osgood, Lt. Greg Taylor, Lt. Steve Smagula, Sgt. Mike Pearl, Sgt. Cori Casey, Sgt. Ranee Boyd and auto mechanic Frank Eaton, who volunteered their time and input in determining the model, features and design of the bike, as well as the style of the bike uniforms. In terms of the latter, think cheerleader meets American Gladiator.
Thanks also to communications technician Bruce Ferry, of the General Services Department for the work he did outfitting the bike with radio gear.
The bike was unveiled May 3 and features the No. 38, in honor of retired officer Earl Webb, whose ID No. was 38. Webb passed away June 30, 2012. Webb worked at the Concord Police Department from 1973 to 1993 and was one of the department’s motorcycle officers. He enjoyed riding his own Harley and was a 25-year member of the Blue Knight’s Chapter I in New Hampshire.

The Concord Water Treatment Plant was host to the Annual Water Week Celebration and Fair on May 8, Aspell writes. Remember, without Water Week, there would be no Shark Week.
More than 300 fourth-grade students from the Concord schools were treated to science exhibits and activities promoting the importance of water, including the ill-fated dehydration station.
The event was also highlighted by the fourth-grade science fair. The science fair winners were presented their awards by New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services Commissioner Tom Burack, NHDES Assistant Commissioner Vicki Quiram and General Services Director Chip Chesley.

The General Services Department has placed the weebles, which remind drivers to slow down and yield to pedestrians, back out for the summer, Aspell writes. The weebles winter in Florida and have only just returned.
