City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell breaks out his protractor and calculator and tries to work through a formula to determine whether one large pizza is a better value than two small pizzas based on surface area. Fried after two hours of noodling, he breaks down and just buys a slice. Thankfully his otherwise unintelligible mathematic scribbles spell out a city memo!

Forecast: #$&**(#*#*

Lousy snow still snowy

With more than 15 inches of snow falling within the last two weeks (::jabs pen in eye::), staff members of the General Services Department have been challenged trying to plow roads, clear sidewalks and remove snow, Aspell writes. To increase the challenge, city bosses have considered forcing employees to complete the work using only plastic children’s shovels.

Crews worked diligently on Tuesday night of last week removing snow from downtown and the surrounding area. Staffcontinues to clear snow from the sidewalks and has also started removing snow, one snowball at a time, from the smaller side streets that have been narrowed from the snowbanks and posted with emergency “No Parking” signs. With no end in sight (uplifting!), the city appreciates the public’s continued patience as crews work to keep up with all of the snow that has fallen and continues to fall.

A lot on your plate

Concord up your car

Help Concord celebrate its 250th anniversary by purchasing a commemorative license plate, Aspell writes. Are they modeled after license plates from 250 years ago when Concord was just a baby? We’re definitely in then.

The plates can be purchased at the city’s Collections Office for $25 each. The commemorative plate may be attached to the front of a motor vehicle, in place of a regular New Hampshire license plate, until Dec. 31. License plates made using construction paper and Sharpies are still not allowed.

The proceeds from the sale of each license plate will go directly to support the celebratory events that will be taking place during the upcoming year. For more information about upcoming events, visit concord250.org.
