Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell runs a hose into his office, floods the floor, turns off the heat and leaves the windows open overnight. The building’s mice emerge in the wee hours and perform an ice skating show, leaving behind a network of blade marks that spell out the city memo.

The Concord Police Department will be hosting a Citizen’s Police Academy starting April 2, Aspell writes. We can only hope that guy who makes all the funny noises is there!
This will be a 10-week program taking place on Wednesday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. Applicants who are accepted can expect an informative session examining all the duties of the Concord Police Department, up to and including those sweet sunglasses police officers wear. The program will consist of classroom instruction, demonstration, and trips to other organizations who are involved with the department and community. Applicants will also have the option to participate in a police ride along – in a car, we presume, rather than a bicycle – and/or a sit-in with the dispatch center.
During the Citizen’s Police Academy, participants will be exposed to the glamour and excitement they associate with police work, along with the processes that are less glamorous, but vital to the day-to-day function of the department. We’re not really sure which category writing press releases about police academies falles under.
Upon completion of the course, it is the department’s hope that not only will participants have a better understanding of the police profession, but that they might have an interest in contributing to the community by volunteering.
