City Briefly

Every January, City Manager Tom Aspell spends a fair amount of time starting with the man in the mirror. While asking him to change his ways, he pens a thriller of a city memo featuring New Year’s resolutions and proceeds to beat it on down to the Insider office where he delivers it alongside his pet chimp, Bubbles. After interpreting all the ABCs and 123s, we’ve taken the liberty of printing it here. Bananas all around!

needling you

Get rid of those trees

Christmas trees are not picked up by the trash service, Aspell writes. Even if you put them out on your curb with presents still under them?

Residents of Concord may dispose of their Christmas trees at the following locations: the transfer station at 77 Old Turnpike Road, Beaver Meadow Golf Course or the White Farm on Clinton Street.  All deposited trees will be chipped into mulch; therefore, please be sure to remove all ornaments, lights and anything else that may be on the tree. This would be a good time to make sure all pet cats, guinea pigs and pythons are present and accounted for.

Only trees will be accepted; no wreaths or brush should be deposited. To deposit wreaths and brush, we recommend Wreath and Brush Federal Credit Union. They have huge ATMs!

Trees will be accepted through Jan. 26.  For more information, call the General Services Department at  228-2737.

Getting the ban back together

Snow is slippery, wet

As winter weather approaches, it may be necessary for the city to issue overnight parking bans in order to perform snow removal operation, Aspell writes. In other news, winter has already approached.

Overnight winter parking bans will be advertised on the city website at concordnh.gov and on Concord TV Channel 17. The ads feature the Sham-Wow guy! (Spoiler alert: No they don’t).

In addition, the city will provide notice of overnight winter parking bans to local media outlets, but cannot guarantee that the ban will be advertised.  The revolution, however, will be televised.

Citizens who are interested in receiving parking ban notifications via email may sign up at parkingban-join@lists.concordnh.gov.  Winter parking bans last from midnight through 7 a.m.  Oh man, that’s the only time I can find a space on Main Street.

Those who park on the street in violation of a winter parking ban are subject to having their vehicle towed and impounded at their expense and will also receive a $100 ticket.

salt and pepper. and sand

But no pepper, really

The General Services Department maintains piles of salt and sand mixture at the following locations for use by Concord residents, Aspell writes: recycling and transfer station, 77 Old Turnpike Road, Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m.- 4 p.m.; wastewater treatment plant, 125 Hall St., First right after entrance on the right.  Gates are closed at 3:30 p.m.; and Manor Dump, Abbott Road, Penacook, 1/4 to 1/2 mile from the Manor Fire Station on the left.  No specific hours.
