City briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell straps on his ice skates, heads down to White Park and starts busting out his arsenal of triple Salchows and toeless lutzs. He skates and skates, carving up the ice for hours on end.

When he’s done, we hop in the official Insider chopper and take an aerial view picture. Lo and behold, there’s a city memo spelled out on the ice!

Cold Shoulder

Winter stuff delayed

The Winter Carnival scheduled for last week at White Park has been postponed until Feb. 2 due to poor ice conditions, Aspell writes. Also, the Nordic Fest scheduled for last Sunday at Beaver Meadow Golf Course has been canceled due to limited snow on the trails. And finally, the first annual Insider 0K cross country ski race has been postponed due to sheer laziness. It will be rescheduled, maybe, but probably not.

Bust out your protractor

City staff and the project design team will host an open public meeting in the clubhouse at Beaver Meadow Golf Course on Jan. 23 to discuss the status of the Sewalls Falls Bridge Replacement Project, Aspell writes. The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., not at fore p.m. as would have been appropriate.

The public is encouraged to attend and will be given the opportunity to provide testimony for the record relative to this project. A seminar on the ethics of testimony will be given by Lance Armstrong just prior to the meeting.

For those who are unable to attend the public meeting, written testimony may be submitted up to 30 days after the date of the public meeting for inclusion in the official record. Send written testimony to: Edward Roberge, City Engineer, Engineering Services Division, City of Concord, 41 Green St., Concord, 03301. Testimony written in crayon will not be accepted.

Project comments may be emailed to bridgeprojectcomments@concordnh.gov.

Comments can also be forwarded to Jamie Sikora, Environmental Program Manager, Federal Highway Administration – N.H. Division, 53 Pleasant St., Suite 2200, Concord, 03301; or via email to Jamie.Sikora@fhwa.dot.gov.

Spoiler alert

Ours is way better

We are excited to announce that the website for the Main Street Project is now live and available for viewing, Aspell writes. This would be a good time to point out that The Insider has already developed the more awesomer redesign, unveiled in our Dec. 4 issue.

Visit concordmainstreetproject.com for the latest news, detailed project information, project schedules, pictures of dogs in funny hats and upcoming meetings. The website also provides an opportunity for the public to comment on the project. Additional information will be added in the coming week to provide the public with details about this important project, so stay tuned.

Pond work still happening

Work continues on the new skating pond at Beaver Meadow, Aspell writes. The contractor recently connected the new drain line to the existing drain line on hole No. 2. Does that mean our golf balls are going to be more difficult to retrieve?

In other news, Ethan Stockman of Concord Boy Scout Troop No. 88 recently installed a bench he constructed for use by cross-country skiers. Cross-country skiing from a bench? Sounds hard.
