Bulletin Board: Take part in Energize Concord event Oct. 3

The Concord Energy and Environment Committee invites the public to an Energize Concord party to be held at True Brew Barista, 3 Bicentennial Square, from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 3. The free event is intended to raise awareness about the committee and recruit new members in a casual, social setting. Attendees will enjoy light refreshments and have the opportunity to win raffle prizes donated by local businesses (including Evolution Rock & Fitness, S&W Sports, EMS, the Purple Pit and Veriditas Herbal Shoppe) and beverages (including beer, wine and cocktails) will be available for purchase.

The CEEC was established by the Concord City Council in 2008 and is charged with recommending projects and programs that help the city and its residents improve energy efficiency, reduce waste and increase recycling rates, evaluate renewable energy opportunities, sustain a healthy working landscape, and more. Its most recent accomplishment was completing an energy and environment chapter for inclusion in the city’s master plan. Volunteer committee members come from a variety of backgrounds and share a desire to make Concord a more environmentally positive, clean and economical place to live and work.

“People should come to learn about what they can do locally to make Concord a more sustainable community,” longtime committee member Jonathan Gregory said.

Member Maura Adams said that the committee hopes the party will inspire others to join. “We have big ideas and great attitudes, and finding the right people to fill out CEEC membership will help us build on recent accomplishments,” Adams said.

Members must live or work in Concord, go through an informal evaluation process and be officially appointed by City Council.
