Assessing the situation

McGowan Fine Art held a free Appraisal and Assessment Day on Friday, with Martha Richardson venturing up from Boston to offer free appraisals of art pieces. Dozens of people came from near and far to have items assessed.
Included among those visitors was Priscilla Hagebusch, who brought the above painting by Mexican artist Antonio Vazquez-Parra. It was given to her by a friend who owed her a debt and used to be the curator of the St. Louis Museum of Art. Hagebusch and her husband, Jerry, have had the painting hanging in their hallway since the ’70’s. Richardson estimated the value at around $500-700 at auction, though Hagebusch is unlikely to sell it, she said, as Vazquez-Parra is still developing a reputation in the secondary market.
