The Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Concord Young Professionals Network (CYPN) introduces you to our “Young Professional of the Month,” Madeline Champlin. Each month the CYPN Steering Committee recommends a young professional in the community it thinks Concord Insider readers would enjoy getting to know better.

How old are you? 28.

Where do you live? Concord.

Where do you currently work? I work for the N.H. Audubon as a naturalist. I also work as a substitute teacher in the Concord School District during the school year.

What’s your favorite part of your work day? I love working with children. The best part of my day is getting children excited about learning, and connecting with our environment.

Where did you go to school? I went to Lyndon State College in Vermont where I earned my bachelor’s in natural science.

What do you like to do for fun? I enjoy watching movies, hiking, being outdoors and hanging out with family and friends.

Last book you’ve read? Zoo Story: Life in the Garden of Captives by Thomas French.

How did you find out about CYPN and how has it benefitted your business or you personally? I first heard about CYPN through my dad, Byron Champlin, who always told me that networking is key. I tend to be shy when I first meet people, and don’t usually like big groups of people I don’t know. CYPN has created such a welcoming community. I’ve been going to monthly networking events since January and at each one I feel more confident meeting new people and building on the friendships and connections I have already made.

Who is your greatest role model? My parents and grandparents have been my greatest role models. They have all helped shape me into the person I am today. Through their presence, wisdom and guidance they have also shown me the kind of person I want to be in the world and within my community.

What’s your favorite restaurant in Concord? This is a tough one; I’d say it’s between The Barley House and Hermanos Cocina Mexicana.

What’s your favorite place to go in Concord? I love visiting Penacook Lake, Concord’s reservoir. It’s so beautiful and peaceful there.

Favorite movie of all time? The Princess Bride.

What is one of your life goals? I’d love to do a cross- country road trip where I visit all 50 states and the national parks.

What has been your favorite CYPN event so far? The event we had in May at Arnie Arnesen’s house.

If you could visit any country, where would you go? Right now I’m feeling a pull towards Ireland and Scotland, but I would love to visit so many places.

Where is the best place you’ve visited? When I was in middle school I went to Nicaragua, and it will always be one of my favorite trips.

Who would you really like to meet? I would love to meet Jane Goodall, she is someone I really look up to and admire.
