Go Try It: Make some art for Love, Lust and Desire

Are you an established artist or someone who merely likes to create paintings or drawings in your free time?

Have you always wanted to be a part of a really cool exhibit that tons of people look at, but don’t really know how to get involved?

Well, might we suggest submitting your work for McGowan Fine Art’s 10th annual Love, Lust and Desire show.

It’s a community grab bag of a show that is ever changing. And you don’t have to be an artist who works with McGowan, or any other gallery for that matter – you just have to submit your work for review.

The only thing is that the deadline for submissions is Friday, so you’ll either have to work really fast to get a new piece done or put something in that you already have in your personal inventory.

Anyone can submit work, it just has to meet a certain criteria: the art must be priced less than $300 and be no larger than 8 ½ inches by 11 inches, so it can fit in a plastic baggie.

Any media will be considered, (including jewelry), but it must fit within the above mentioned criteria and be light enough to be held up by two clips.

The theme is meant to be interpreted broadly — so for instance, in the past entrants have focused on love of their pet, food or landscape. No need to be too literal with the theme – get creative.

Those interested can submit up to 10 images for review. Those chosen to be a part of the show will be notified early next year.

Email your work to gallery@mcgowanfineart.com by Friday, using low-res images (72 dpi, no smaller than 600 pixels high by 800 pixels wide). Make sure to crop according to how you want your images to look on McGowan’s website.

All files must be saved as: (all lower case) your last name, title of artwork.jpg Use dashes instead of spaces in your file names. So for instance, our submission would be goodwin-past.jpg.

Put “Love, Lust, & Desire Entry” in the subject line to ensure they receive it.

And just remember, the images you submit must be the actual work available for this show. We know you like all of your work, but they want to judge your entry by the work that will be hanging on the gallery walls.

If you have any questions, call the gallery at 225-2515 or send them a quick email.

When submitting your work, remember to include the image, title, size, medium and retail price for each piece. It will make it a lot easier for those reviewing the work for the show.

And other than that, good luck. We sure hope your work is chosen. Maybe you’ll even see it in the Insider spread when the show comes around.
