The Secret of Goldenrod

Jane O’Reilly

2016, 370 pages

Children’s fiction – chapter book

Fifth-grader Trina is constantly moving with her dad as he restores old houses. She’s never lived long enough in one place to call it “home.” But she likes to help her dad with his work. They are a good team. She and her dad move to rural Iowa to restore an old mansion named Goldenrod. Trina has trouble fitting in at school, and Goldenrod seems to be haunted! But when Trina finds an old and very special doll in a hidden dollhouse, things begin to change.

This is a wonderful chapter book about a brave young girl, a tomboy, who doesn’t fit in but is trying her hardest. When she meets an unexpected friend, the mysteries of Goldenrod begin to come alive for her.

You will be rooting for Trina as she makes more and more discoveries about Goldenrod and herself.
