Every year since 1966, the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce has chosen one outstanding individual as its citizen of the year.

Last year, Teresa Rosenberger, president of Devine Strategies in Concord received the Chamber’s top honor. And if you look at her list of civic credentials it’s easy to see why she was chosen from what we can only imagine was a pool of worthy nominees.

And now the Chamber is seeking nominations in order to select the best candidate for the 2017 honor.

The Chamber will accept nominations through Friday, Sept. 22, and the award will be presented at the Chamber’s 98th Annual Meeting on Nov. 8, beginning at 5 p.m. at the Grappone Conference Center.

Each year, the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year Committee selects an individual from the community who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and performance in several areas of community service over a period of years.

“It’s for people who have given themselves in a lot of ways over a long period of time,” said Tim Sink, Chamber president.

Chamber members and citizens are invited to submit nominees who fulfill the following qualifications:

The individual should live in greater Concord and his/her activities should also be centered here.

Recognition will be given for leadership and performance in several areas of community service over a number of years.

The person to be recognized shall have contributed to the general benefit of the community as a whole.

“We want to cast the net far and wide,” Sink said.

The nominee does not have to be a member of the Chamber or the business community. The award will not be given posthumously. All nominations will be kept confidential.

Sink said it’s not unheard of for the committee, made up of the current Chamber board chair and the past five board chairs, to receive 20 to 30 nominations.

The committee is also allowed to submit ideas and candidates they see fit for the award.

“There’s always a discussion among the committee,” Sink said. “Its got quite a history to it. We really value this award.”
