Old school vs. new school

You’re either old school or new school when it comes to the world of music.

Sure, you can like both, but more often than not, your allegiances side with one or the other.

But it won’t really matter if you go to Concord High this Saturday, because the music created by talented artists from both eras will be filling the air. And some pretty talented local kids will be ripping up the stage with impressive dance moves.

Vibes of Style is putting on a dance show at 3 p.m. that will have about 45 local students mimicking the music videos and dance routines of people like Michael Jackson, Madonna, Milli Vanilli, Missy Elliott and Chris Brown.

“We have a lot of kids who like Michael Jackson and Madonna,” said Shamecca Brown, Vibes of Style owner.

The show will be done in a way that you will feel like you’re at the Grammys. So expect to see other famous acts like Diana Ross, TLC, Run DMC and Aerosmith.

“I thought it would be something different,” Brown said of the show’s format.

Vibes of Style began as an after school program at Rundlett Middle School in 2008 and has since branched off as a local nonprofit studio for kids who want to dance but aren’t able to afford it.

“Whatever money we make goes back to the program,” Brown said.

All the music will be played by a DJ, so don’t be surprised to hear some mixing and sounds effects.

“It lets the kids know where the cues are,” Brown said.

Tickets are $10 and can be found here.

There will be food for sale and a candy buffet.

“The kind of candy you grew up on,” Brown said.
