Do you ever sit around feeling like you just don’t know how to do anything?
Don’t let that get you down – instead, just check out the How-To Festival at Concord Public Library this Saturday, where everyone will walk away with more life skills and general knowledge than they went in with.
The second annual event – which will take place at the library from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. – celebrates the “broad and diverse offerings of Concord businesses and organizations,” said reference librarian Robbin Bailey.
Members of the community – mostly representatives from local businesses – will be on hand to give demonstrations of whatever it is they’re good at in 25 minutes or less. There will be many demo stations set up all over the library, and a total of 30 will be featured throughout the day.
It will work sort of like high school: the day will be broken up into half-hour blocks, with about 25 minutes for the demonstration and 5 minutes to get to your next class, so to speak. And, also like school, there are lots of classes going on at once, so it won’t be possible to hit them all.
Bailey’s suggestion is to check out the schedule at concordpubliclibrary.net (we’ll attach it online, too) and try to map out your day.
Maybe, for instance, you want to check out How to Help Grow Small, Local Businesses in the auditorium at 10 and then learn How to Make Healthy, Delicious Smoothies in the second-floor Blanchard Room at 10:30. It would be good to be prepared to have to hustle up the several flights of stairs to get from the basement to the upper floor in time.
Last year’s debut event was fun and enjoyed by all, but Bailey said the library is hoping for an even bigger turnout this year.
The event is free and open to the general public of all ages – you don’t even need a library card to attend.
