Nothing says holiday spirit like a festive craft

Are you looking for a way to spice up your decorating game this year? Do you look at all your old holiday decor and want something new and different?

If you haven’t seen anything you like in the stores, maybe this is the year to create something festive yourself.

We took to the internet to see what we could find in the Concord world of crafts, and are we ever glad we did. There’s tons going on between now and Christmas to spruce up your holiday.

Concord Library

When we generally think about the library, we obviously think of books. But in the month of December, the library will be known for food with two great events.

On Thursday, chef Liz Barbour will teach you how to cook with chocolate, just in time for the holidays.

Barbour will be demonstrating two recipes where chocolate is the main ingredient, and is not a dessert. She will also give out samples during her discussion, which runs from 6 to 7:30 p.m. This event is free, but registration is required. Sign up at the service desk (either in person or by calling 225-8670 ext. 2) or through the library website.

On Dec. 14, from 3 to 7 p.m., the library auditorium will be turned into a construction zone – for gingerbread houses. Well, tiny gingerbread houses that is.

It’s free and all the supplies will be there for you to use. Just be prepared to have some sticky fingers.

The Place Studio

As you may already know, you’ll find some pretty cool crafts for the whole family at The Place Studio & Gallery. Now located in the Concord Community Arts Center, The Place allows you to be your creative self, while trying out new disciplines.

And is The Place ever ready to get you in the holiday spirit. From now until Santa makes his official visit to Concord (on Christmas morning, of course), The Place will have all sorts of wintry crafts for everyone.

On Saturday at 6 p.m., you can make a needle felted Christmas gnome. Next week, there’s a watercolor workshop for snowflake note cards, as well as a hand-painted cookie plate class.

Check out theplaceconcord.wixsite.com/the-place/class-calendar for all the classes and pricing for the holiday season.

Bead It

If you’re not an avid beader, chances are you haven’t spent much time in Bead It on North Main Street – unless you know someone into beading and that’s your go-to in the gift giving department.

But if you’ve always wanted to try threading tiny beads onto a piece of wire or string, this is a great time of year to do it.

On the class calendar for December are all kinds of festive workshops that are open to anyone.

You can make beaded snowflakes on Thursday and Saturday this week for $15, or wait till next week and try your steady hands at brick holiday or wreath earrings. as well as ornaments.

Go to beadit.biz/class-calendar.html for all the info.

Cork and Canvas

As you well know, we’re not exactly the best painters. We’ve tried, but it just doesn’t look like we have a career as artists.

That’s okay though, because at Cork & Canvas, you don’t have to be a pro to paint a picture you’ll be proud of. They have some high quality teachers who will make sure of it.

And starting this week and through the end of the year, just about every class has to do with winter or the holidays.

You can paint a wintry landscape, a snowman, an owl or one with Santa in it. There’s even a cool Northern Lights one in a few weeks.
