NHTI to host open house Nov. 2

Explore NHTI at our fall open house on Nov. 2, from 4 to 6:30 p.m. in the Wellness Center Gym.

Learn about our 90 academic programs, tour our 240-acre campus, find out about campus life and meet current and former students, academic department heads and representatives from admissions and financial aid.

Can’t make the open house? We have “Drop-in Tuesdays” weekly from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Get a 15-minute overview of the college and bring your questions for admissions and financial aid representatives. Campus tours available for those who arrive by 5:15 p.m. No reservations required. Or schedule a tour at your convenience at nhti.edu/ sign-campus-tour.

Walker Lecture to host magic show

On Wednesday, just in time for Halloween, Peter Boie will perform “Magic For Non-Believers” at the Concord City Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Walker Lecture Series

It will be just like it was seen on the show Penn & Teller: Fool Us, and is a great Halloween season treat.

VNA to host balance program

Concord Regional VNA is offering an eight-week falls prevention program “A Matter of Balance” that helps adults view falls and the fear of falling as controllable, change the environment to reduce fall risk factors and exercise to increase strength and balance.

The program takes place on Tuesdays beginning Nov. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon at Bow Mills United Methodist Church, 505 South Main St in Bow.

Trunk or treat on Garrison Street

On Halloween night, West Congregational Church goers will line up their cars behind the church on Garrison Street and get spooky with trunk or treat from 5 to 6:30 p.m.

Come check out our decorated vehicles, sound effects and costumes, we will have candy to give out to all our happy haunters.

If you would like to decorate your trunk and join in please do so. All are welcome.

Doctor to talk about new book

On Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at Gibson’s Bookstore, addiction and emergency medicine physician and author, Dr. Steven Kassels, will discuss his book Addiction on Trial: Tragedy in Downeast Maine, and his medical experiences. He will also discuss the reasons why we are experiencing a heroin/opioid epidemic and possible solutions, with a Q and A to follow.

Red River to host nature series film

Join The Nature Conservancy and Red River Theatres on Wednesday for Return of the River, the final film in the Future of Nature Film Series at 6:30 p.m.

Return of the River follows a group of strong-minded committed people as they attempt the impossible: To change the public opinion of a town and eventually the nation to bring a dam down. A panel discussion will follow.

Halloween party at GoodLife Programs

GoodLife Programs and Activities is hosting a Halloween party on Friday at 2 p.m., with tricks and Mr. Magic, whose show is a fusion of mind blowing magic, mentalism, hilarious comedy, illusions and loaded with audience participation. Cost is $5.

Honor a loved one with lights of life

Help us spread awareness of hospice and Concord Regional VNA hospice program by honoring a loved one or friend and inscribing their name in the 21st annual Hospice Lights of Life Honor Roll. You can enter their name and donate online through Dec. 1.

The honor roll is available for viewing at crvna.org and is updated weekly, and in the Monitor on Dec. 13.

Each December, lights shine in the windows of local offices and businesses throughout Concord and the surrounding communities to remember loved ones and friends who have passed away.

Please join us for Hospice Lights of Life community remembrance ceremonies being held in Concord on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. at Merrimack County Savings Bank, 89 N. Main St., and Dec. 6 at 2 p.m. at Pleasant View Retirement, 227 Pleasant St.

‘Before the Flood’ to be shown Nov. 1

Join the League of Women Voters of New Hampshire and Moms Clean Air Force for a special free screening of National Geographic’s new documentary, Before the Flood, on Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. at Red River Theatres.

Before the Flood presents a riveting account of the dramatic changes now occurring around the world due to climate change.

There will also be a discussion about the importance of voting for clean energy on Election Day.
