Nothing quite says summer like enjoying a meal in the fresh air.

As you probably know, there are lots of places around Concord where you can grab a bite. But on a nice day, you could wait five, 10 or 20 minutes for a table. And if you’re in a hurry – either running errands or taking a quick break from your garden or any other outdoor project you’ve got going on – that just might not fit into your plans.

The same can be said on the beat for the Concord Insider. Sometimes, you only have a short amount of time to eat between writing stories and interviews.

So that’s why we mosied up to The Rolling Grill 2 last week. It was a busy day and we wanted something quick, but not fast – if you know what we mean.

Plus, the little stationary food truck in the Home Depot parking lot (42 D’Amante Drive) has been on our radar for a while now. Apparently it’s quite popular.

And a quick look of the menu showed it had just what you might expect from a food truck. There were hot dogs that you can get regular, with chili and/or cheese. Hamburgers and cheeseburgers, sausage with onions and peppers, steak and cheese and pulled pork. There was also a grilled chicken bomb, a smoked pulled chicken special and chicken salad on a bulkie.

Along with some deep fried delicacies, like fries, chicken tenders and mozzarella sticks.

While it was a lot to choose from, we were thinking burger all the way. With fries and a water, of course.

It seemed like we had just order when the styrofoam container with lunch appeared through the ordering window.

So we grabbed a couple napkins, squirted a little ketchup on the fries from the condiment station and sat down at one of the two picnic benches.

Of course, we grabbed a couple fries first. They were right there, we were hungry and you can tell a lot about your meal by the fries. It was quickly known this was one we were going to enjoy.

The fries were hot and fresh, like right out of the fryolator, and cooked to order. They had a nice crisp to them and seasoned well.

But the main attraction was the burger. We went simple: just lettuce, burger and bun.

The bun was soft, even though it was grilled. The burger was juicy, but cooked all the way through – just how we like it.

We had high hopes going into this food experience and didn’t leave disappointed. The burger was great, right up to the last bite, and there was more than enough fries to go along with it.

Despite being as close to full as possible, we polished off the fries. They were too good to throw away.

Before leaving, we learned the pulled pork and steak and cheese are quite popular among the regulars.

Looks like we’ll have to go back – off the clock – to do some more tasting.
