Admit it, you’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a superhero.

And why wouldn’t you? Having special powers would be awesome, although it would not be easy deciding which one we’d want.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t really matter what your preference is because you have to be a comic book or movie character to fly, be invisible or have super strength.

But we still can dream, can’t we?

And what better way to fuel those dreams than to read the latest and greatest in the comic book world – for free.

That’s right, this Saturday is Free Comic Book Day, and Concord is getting in on the fun.

From 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Double Midnight comics on South Main Street will be doing things right. They’re giving out free comic books (three to five per person), all day long.

“It’s free comics, who doesn’t want that?” said Double Midnight’s manager, Justin Desfosses.

Double Midnight is also hosting a costume contest – so make sure you come dressed in your superhero best – and lots of door prizes. And just an FYI: the first person through the door that morning gets the “You’re Number One Package.” Sounds fancy.

There will be raffles and some pretty good artists on hand.

“We try not to hold anything back,” Desfosses.

But Double Midnight isn’t the only place in Concord to celebrate Free Comic Book Day. Collectibles Unlimited on South Street doesn’t have any major plans, but will be handing out free comic books. There’s a whole host of businesses with deals, discounts and promos to enjoy the day. Crust and Crumb is giving away a free superhero cookie with every purchase, New England Cupcakery and Treats is doing special superhero and villain cupcakes and Spank Alley Skate Shop is giving 15 percent off for anyone in costume. And those are just the few places we could fit in.

Red River Theatres is another perfect spot to honor your favorite superheroes, and this one is really geared toward the youngest comic fans in the area (ages 3 to 10).

Starting at 10 a.m., there will be themed crafts, a popcorn bar, costumed capped crusaders, short films and more.

Tickets are just $5.
