Fifity-five years ago on May 5, 1961, astronaut and New Hampshire native, Alan B. Shepard Jr. rocketed from Earth inside a tiny Mercury space capsule he named Freedom 7.

Today, two area comic creators who grew up during those days at the dawning of the space age have produced a story that retells every detail of Shepard’s historic mission. A Flight Aboard Freedom 7 will be available at the McAuliffe Shepard Discovery Center in Concord starting at Aerospcefest on Saturday, as well as many other retail outlets around the state.

Michael and Michelle Mitchell formed their own comic book company in 2013 with a goal to produce all age friendly comics that are both entertaining and educational. The Mitchells have created titles such as, Zombie Sub-920 and UFO’s Over Exeter.

To learn more about the Mitchells and their comics you can meet them at the Discovery Center’s AerospaceFest on Saturday where A Flight Aboard Freedom 7 will be available for purchase. The Mitchells will be on hand to autograph purchased copies of their book free of charge from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
