Plenty of bookish events

We’re always hungry for literary events, and we know you are too. Whether it’s a chance to talk to an author, hear some poetry or just talk about what you’re reading, there seems to always be something for literary enthusiasts, and this week is no different.

Independent Bookstore Day

Saturday is Independent Bookstore Day, and you better believe Gibson’s Bookstore is participating. At the all-day celebration, you can try out some literary-themed treats from an Alice in Wonderland tea party while you browse. The Poetry Society of New Hampshire will read some poetry (Gary Margolis) at 11 a.m., and then a poetry open mic at noon.

Purchases over $30 will earn a blind bag with an advance copy of recent releases.

There will be limited quantities of some IBD-exclusive merchandise for sale, so that makes it worth showing up to. Plus, you can also sign up throughout the day for raffle prizes.

Check out gibsonsbookstore.com for more details.

Book club meeting

Gibson’s is home to a book club, and it will meet again Monday night at 7 to discuss The Orphan Master’s Son, by Adam Johnson.

The book club is open to all, so if you’ve read this book and want to talk about it, just show up. If you haven’t read it, you can still show up and learn a little about it and maybe you can jump in the next time, when you have a little more time to read what the group is reading.

Books & Brew

Books and Brew is another book club, but this one doesn’t have assigned reading. At Books and Brew, you just show up to True Brew Barista ready to talk about whatever you’re reading, even if nobody else is reading it. It meets at 6 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month, which is coming right up, so go check it out.

Poet Sydney Lea

Sydney Lea, former poet laureate of Vermont, will present his new book of poetry, No Doubt the Nameless, on May 4 at Gibson’s at 5:30 p.m.
