Thursday

There’s nothing quite like a splash of spring in the middle of winter. And if you’re in need of some bright, colorful floral arrangements accompanied by fantastic works of art, then look no further than McGowan Fine Art.

The annual Art and Bloom opening reception is tonight, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The show only lasts three days because it’s done with flowers, so make sure not to miss it.

Work Nest is kicking off the new year with a solo exhibition featuring Mike Howat’s work, “Vacancies.” The opening reception will be held at 5 p.m.

Friday

Symphony NH bassist Robert Hoffman will preview the orchestra’s concert at the City Auditorium with a talk in the Concord Library auditorium at 4 p.m.

At 8 p.m., Symphony NH returns to the Audi stage for a performance.

Saturday

If you like maple syrup, then make your way to the Wesley United Methodist Church for the Concord girls basketball team’s pancake breakfast. The fluffy breakfast food will be served from 8:30 to 11 a.m. for $5 per person or $20 for a family of four or more. Kids under 3 are free.

Alyssa Couture will host an Eco Fashion Seminar at Healing Arts of NH, 40 N. Main St. Her seminar is geared for the conscious consumer, fashionista and/or fashion professional with an interest of sustainability, health and design. The seminar begins at 1 p.m. and costs $10. Registration is required at alternativefashion design.com

Break out that ugly sweater and get ready to have some outdoor fun at the annual winter carnival at White Park. There will be a 5K at 10:30 a.m. (that’s where the ugly sweater comes in) and then the winter carnival kicks off at noon with sledding, skating, a snowman building competition and lots more.

The NH Theatre awards makes its Concord debut with the 14th annual event at the Capitol Center for the Arts. Experience the best of an entire year of theatre in one glorious night. The Place Studio & Gallery will host an opening reception for Andre Bertolino, from 5 to 7 p.m.

There will be live music and light refreshments.

Sunday

Beaver Meadow will be the place for winter fun with the first annual winter blast, from noon to 4 p.m.

Sponsored by the Capital Area Wellness Coalition, winter blast will highlights all of the free winter activities at Beaver Meadow, like cross country skiing, skating and snowshoeing. There will also be a snow sculpting competition, snowball throwing contest, music, bonfire, hot cocoa and food concession.

If you’ve ever been curious about essential oils or want to learn more about the benefits of them, Work Nest is hosting a free workshop at 10 a.m. Each attendee will leave with one to two handmade products.
