After getting an in-depth tutorial on how a real gingerbread house is made from Sue Chandler of Chandler’s Candies last year, we decided it was time to step up our game this holiday season. So when we heard about the Presidential Oaks Gingerbread House Competition, we couldn’t dial the phone fast enough to secure our entry. The rules were simple and straightforward: It can not exceed 24 inches high, 24 inches wide and 24 inches long and must be made of at least 75 percent gingerbread. And all materials must be edible, which can be difficult when you’re hungry and building at the same time. You don’t have to build a typical house – actually, we were encouraged to be creative. The deadline to submit our entry is Wednesday with judging to take place this Saturday during the Capital Area Artisans Holiday Fair at Presidential Oaks. But we couldn’t give away all our secrets before the deadline, so here’s a little sneak peek.
