City Briefly

Each week, City Manager Tom Aspell inflates the city memo to twist it into a doggy balloon animal, but accidentally uses helium. Thankfully he’s able to recite the memo while clinging to the balloon with one arm as he floats over the city. Let it lift you up right here!

We vote for renovations

A building fit for a Prez

Concord Housing & Redevelopment is launching several major projects this summer at one of its older buildings, the John F. Kennedy Building (the F must be for fixer-upper!), located at the corner of Main and Thompson streets, Aspell writes.

Renovations, energy updates, painting, landscaping and more will be performed throughout the summer to transform the building to a fresher, more energy efficient and ADA compliant home for its residents. Renovations include improvements to the two 50-year old elevators (now with actual buttons!), expansion of the main lobby, new landscaping which will result in the building’s grounds being more user-friendly and ADA accessible for all, and a fresh coat of paint in all the building’s common areas.

A cup of joe with joe public

Have coffee with the po-po

The Concord Police Department will host its second “Coffee with a Cop” event on Friday, June 26, from 9 to 11 a.m. at The Works Bakery Café at 42 N. Main St. That title was chosen of our proposal, “A Steaming Old Cup of the Law.”

This event provides a unique opportunity for Concord Police Officers and community members to come together in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues and build relationships in a relaxed, one-on-one interaction over coffee. Ordering tea will not be considered a felony, we don’t think.

All members of the community are invited to attend to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers.

For more information, contact Lt. John Thomas or Officer Ryan Howe at 225-8600.
