Perennial exchange at City Auditorium May 9

The 15th annual Perennial Exchange opens Concord’s gardening season Saturday, May 9, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Concord City Auditorium.

It’s free and open to all. Here’s how the exchange works: Perennial plants are ambitious, persistent and wandering. You’ve got a flock of phlox, a host of hosta, a diorama of daisies. Dig some up, split them, put them in cans or boxes and bring them down to the Audi to swap for new varieties.

And, if you’re just starting a garden, there’ll be plenty of plants for you. Take your new plants home and settle them into your garden.

It’s all to beautify the city’s streetscape, which is getting lovelier every year.

Also at the exchange will be advice from “Dr. Splat,” affordable annuals and Mother’s Day mugs, for that last minute gift. There will also be a gardening raffle with 10 prizes to win.

The exchange, sponsored by The Friends of the Audi and Concord’s General Services Department, will be held rain or shine with morning coffee and pastries available.
