Smashing success

The Capital Region Food Program partnered with local media outlets for a food drive during the annual Market Days festival.

Nearly 450 pounds of food were collected on Friday and Saturday. More than 245 pounds of food and $140 in cash donations were collected at the 105.5 JYY / 93.3 The Wolf booth and Concord Community TV collected 200 pounds of food.

“The Capital Region FoodProgram is grateful for our community's ongoing support,” chairman John Greabe said. “Their generosity allows us to continue serving those in need.”

The food was distributed Monday morning to Concord Human Services and St. Peter's St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry and is a supplement to the Year-Round Distribution Program.

As part of the Year-Round Distribution Project, the Capital Region Food Program purchases and donates non-perishable items such as canned fruit and vegetables, peanut butter, breakfast cereal, pasta, and soups 11 times annually to more than 30 local agencies. Every dollar donated to the organization buys food. Visit capitalregionfoodprogram.org to learn how to organize a food drive, to donate and to volunteer and to find a list of partner agencies supported by their efforts.
